Company’s Profit Reaches $125.6 Million, But Total Revenue Drops Slightly
Although the profit of the Grupo Empresarial Colombina reached $125.671 million by the end of last year, both this amount and the company’s total revenue were impacted by the increase in the tax on ultra-processed products. The rate of this tax rose from 10 percent in November 2023 to 15 percent from January 2024.
Regarding operations, the Group reported consolidated net revenue exceeding $3.3 trillion pesos, an amount 1 percent lower than that recorded in 2023.
Sales Performance in Domestic and Foreign Markets
The organization’s board of directors reported that sales in the Colombian market totaled $1.93 trillion pesos, while sales in the foreign market amounted to $335 million USD (approximately $1.37 trillion pesos), reflecting an annual growth of 2 percent.
However, they explained that “due to the 4 percent revaluation of the Colombian peso against the dollar between the two periods, foreign sales decreased by 2 percent, which represented the impact,” they detailed.
Profitability Grows Despite Challenging Global Scenario
According to the Group’s board of directors, although 2024 was a year marked by complex global situations, mainly due to the war conflicts in Asia/Europe and the Middle East, and in Latin America, as a result of the uncertainties generated by government decisions in some countries that affected the business environment, the Colombian company managed to overcome these challenges. The company achieved an improvement in profitability, with a gross margin of 35.9 percent compared to 34.3 percent in the previous year, which mitigated the slight drop in net sales and matched the pre-tax profit of 2023.
Sweets Division Leads Revenue Despite Sales Decline
The report released by the company reveals that, of the Group’s six business units, the sweets division, despite having shown an 8 percent decrease last year, was the one that generated the highest revenue, in the order of $1.24 trillion pesos.
Next were the biscuits division, with sales of $918.277 million pesos, and the represented brands division, which accumulated sales of $423.506 million pesos in the same period.
