Germán Bahamón Affirms Colombia Will Remain a Reliable Supplier

Germán Bahamón, General Manager of the National Federation of Coffee Growers (Fedecafé), expressed concern about the potential impact of tariffs on coffee demand in the United States, the main market for Colombian coffee.

Bahamón noted on his X account that Donald Trump’s announcement of tariff adjustments has raised uncertainty within the coffee sector. “Especially due to its potential effect on coffee demand in Colombia’s most important market, the United States, due to the potential increase in consumer prices,” he stated.

Competitiveness of Colombian Coffee

Despite the uncertainty caused by this measure, the industry leader emphasized that Colombian coffee remains competitive in the international market. “We are aware that even in this new environment, Colombia maintains its competitiveness compared to other origins,” he added.

Trade Diplomacy and Productivity

Fedecafé remains optimistic that trade diplomacy will mitigate the negative effects of this decision and that collaborative efforts between private and public sectors will enhance the productivity of the coffee industry. “Joint efforts between private stakeholders and public support should focus on improving productivity conditions,” Bahamón stated.

Commitment to Quality and Reliability

Fedecafé’s manager reaffirmed Colombia’s commitment to the quality and reliability of its coffee, highlighting institutional support and research as essential elements to face this challenge. “Colombia will continue to be a reliable and competitive supplier, distinguished by what we do best: producing the world’s best mild coffee,” he concluded.
