The United States Remains the Main Destination

According to the National Administrative Department of Statistics (Dane), Colombia’s exports in February totaled $3.78 billion, representing a 0.8% decrease compared to the same period last year.

Decline in Fuels and Extractive Products

The main factor behind this decline was a 17.5% drop in external sales of fuels and extractive industries, which totaled $1.5 billion, representing 39.7% of the total value exported. The most affected products were oil and its derivatives (-22.7%) and coal, coke, and briquettes (-26.3%), which together contributed with 23.1 negative percentage points to the overall variation.

Growth in Manufacturing and Agricultural Products

On the other hand, manufacturing exports reached $815.6 million, an increase of 2.4% compared to February 2024. This growth is mainly attributed to higher sales of chemical products (+3.6%) and machinery and transportation equipment (+4.5%).

In terms of agricultural products, food, and beverages, external sales reached $1.14 billion, an 18.7% increase over the previous year. Exports of decaffeinated coffee grew by 70.1%, while coffee extracts and concentrates increased by 49.1%.

Significant Increase in Other Sectors

The group of other sectors showed a 37.1% increase in February, mainly driven by the rise in exports of non-monetary gold, which contributed 37.7 points to the group’s overall variation.

Main Export Destinations

The United States remained the main destination for Colombian exports, with a 27% share. Other key destinations included Panama (5.9%), Ecuador (4.5%), Brazil (4.0%), the Netherlands (3.9%), India (3.9%), and China (3.3%).

The decline in sales to Panama and Puerto Rico contributed negatively by 7.8 percentage points to the total export variation (-0.8%). In contrast, sales to the United Arab Emirates contributed positively by 1.8 percentage points.
