Discovery Occurs in Exploratory Well 105 km Off the Coast of Rio de Janeiro
Petrobras has announced the identification of hydrocarbons in the pre-salt layer of the Campos Basin, in an exploratory well located in the North of Brava block. The well is situated 105 kilometers off the coast of the state of Rio de Janeiro, at a water depth of 575 meters.
Hydrocarbons are essential components of various products, primarily petroleum derivatives. Through hydrocarbons, it is possible to manufacture a wide range of important items, such as liquid and gaseous fuels, plastics, paints, resins, and asphalt, among others.
Confirmation of Hydrocarbon Presence
The drilling of the exploratory well has been completed, and the presence of hydrocarbons in the geological formation was confirmed through electrical profiles, gas detection, and fluid sampling. The samples will undergo laboratory analyses for detailed characterization. The obtained data will allow Petrobras to evaluate the potential of the discovery and guide future exploration activities in the area.
North of Brava Block: Strategic Asset for Pre-Salt
The North of Brava block is considered an important asset for exploring the pre-salt potential, especially in the Campos Basin, one of Brazil’s main oil provinces. Petrobras acquired the block in December 2022, during the 1st Cycle of the Permanent Production Sharing Offer, a bidding process conducted by the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP). Petrobras operates the block and holds 100% participation.

El bloque es considerado importante para la exploración del pre-sal en la Cuenca de Campos. Petrobras adquirió el bloque en 2022 y posee el 100% de participación.
